CAScination fit for the GP of Bern

The 19th of May has long been a fixture for Bernese medtech company CAScination. Already in mid January employees started with their weekly training session for the main event of the year, the GP of Bern. “Ten out of 25 employees signed up for the run, seven of them even for the 10 mile run. To cover such a distance successfully, intensive preparation is mandatory”, says Stefan Aebischer, Head of Finance and HR at CAScination.

When it comes to long-distance running the 34 year old is an expert. This year will already be the 10^th time that he’s starting at the GP of Bern. No doubt that he is again ready and in shape for the 10 mile run. For CAScination more important than the mere distance or time is to motivate their employees to commit themselves to participate in one of the most popular sport’s events in Bern.

Once a week CAScination employees are using an extended lunch break to get themselves in shape for the event. «Our training sessions are designed to get everyone in time ready for the GP of Bern, even if they didn’t do any running before. At the end all should be ready to complete at least the 4,7 Kilometers», says Aebischer. With seven employees in total who signed up for the 10 mile run, they don’t seem to lack motivation. With its 16,1 kilometers in total and an elevation of 200 meters the GP of Bern is challenging even for well trained professionals.

CAScination, a fast growing company producing navigation software and robotic systems for the precise targeting and destruction of cancer tumors, uses the Grand Prix of Bern to enhance exchange between different departments and foster mutual understanding. During the course of a year the GP is just one of several team events. This year, for example, the team is going to Croatia for a short holiday, where people can also meet on a personal level outside the hectic pace of everyday life and meetings. «At the moment we are witnessing a very dynamic period in the development of our company. A good and well-coordinated team is the primary success factor. It is important for us to integrate new employees into the team as quickly as possible so that they can assume responsibility and perform well», says Aebischer.

CAScination has no doubt, that training sessions and the run itself will soon pay off for the company, no matter what results will be achieved in the end. All employees are engaged in international projects, that demand a high degree of flexibility, endurance and commitment. In this respect an event like the GP of Bern can serve as the blueprint for the daily work in the office.
