CAS-One IR at Aarhus University Hospital

Aarhus University Hospital is Denmark’s leading hospital in percutaneous ablations of various tumors. Each year, the hospital performs around 500 ablations in the liver, kidneys, lungs, and bones, of which approximately 200 are in the liver.

Liver ablation holds a special significance due to its complexity: liver lesions can be difficult to visualize, and their location often involves navigating around many critical structures. We are confident that CAS-One IR will help improve patient outcomes by enabling highly accurate treatment planning, precise needle placement, and verification of results within the same session, ultimately offering even better care for patients in Denmark, while also reducing our frustration when procedures do not go exactly as planned.

The first treatment using CAS-One was performed on a patient with recurrence of two colorectal metastases, 15 months after an earlier microwave ablation. The procedure went very well, even though initial “blind” needle placement required some courage.

Verification with AblaSure was also successful, even though the anesthesiologist was somewhat quick to reduce muscle relaxation, which made the procedure slightly more challenging.

What impressed the physicians the most was how intuitive and user-friendly the system proved to be even during the very first use.

"We strongly believe that CAS-One will enable us to perform more ablations and to treat patients who previously could only be managed surgically or with stereotactic body radiation therapy." - Dr. Laurynas Kazlas and Dr. Nikolaj Skou
